Possible Trigger Foods for Interstitial Cystitis Sufferers


We should like to stress that this is in no way a definitive or exhaustive list. In our experience, based on members reports, there is no rhyme nor reason to what an individual may or may not tolerate.

There are however certain things that everybody agrees on - both good and bad. Sadly, the 'Good' list is rather short & the 'Bad' list rather long. Therefore it is easier to list the things that seem to be OK....

Beverages      Bottled Water, Red Bush Tea, Pear Juice 

Breads           White Bread, Rice Bread /cakes, Millet, Buck Wheat, Matzo, Plain Pita bread 

Cereals           Refined, Rice, Plain pasta, [Not breakfast cereals] 

Fats                Butter , Margarine , Vegetable Oils 

Soups             Soups Made With Allowed Vegetables 

Meat               Fish, Poultry  Beef, Chicken, Lamb, Veal, Flounder, Halibut, Salmon, Snapper, Scallops, Sole, Mackerel, Tuna, Crab, Shrimp 

Cheese           Cream Cheese, Cottage Cheese, Ricotta 

Vegetables      Alfalfa, Beets, Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, Chicory , Carrots, Celery, Cucumber, Cauliflower , Okra (Ladies Fingers), Courgette, Squash, Turnips,                              Kale, Leeks, 

Beans             Aduki, Navy, Chick Peas, Split Peas, Kidney, Peas 

Fruits              Apricots, Pears, Picked Plums 

Desserts          No suggestions here - personal experience I'm afraid. 

Sweets            No suggestions here - personal experience I'm afraid. Many IC'ers have found white chocolate to be acceptable. Generally though, sugars should be                          avoided, especially artificial sweeteners. 

Spices             Rosemary, Thyme, Oregano, Basil, Marjoram, Fennel, Sage, Dill, Mixed Herbs 

Nuts                Pine, Cashews, Almonds
