Complementary Therapies


There are many alternative treatments that IC sufferers have had success with. These include, but are not limited to:


Acupuncture
The insertion of needles into acupuncture points, which may be of help for pain relief, migraines, menstrual and menopausal problems, insomnia and cystitis.

Aromatherapy
This is based on the properties of essential oils, said to be good for some stress related conditions.

Chinese Herbs
This, like acupuncture aims to restore the balance of energy in the body. It is claimed to be helpful for chronic conditions.

Flower remedies (Bach)
The tincture from the flowers of wild plants, bushes and trees is preserved in Brandy. Used in very small doses it is said to lift ones spirits. The principal is that our emotions have a strong effect on our physical condition.

Homeopathy
In order to treat a given disorder, a remedy is used that would produce the same symptoms in a healthy person. Remedies available include tinctures, pills, tablets, creams and ointments.

Massage
This treatment involves the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body to achieve the aim of mental or physical relaxation.

Reflexology
Practitioners believe that all of the bodies’ organs, systems and parts are reflected in the feet. Natural healing powers are released by massaging the feet, stimulating the corresponding organs
