Self Help
When an attack occurs:
- Alkalising the urine helps to eradicate bacteria and sooth the bladder. Bicarbonate of soda, 5 ml (one teaspoon) in half a glass of water, 2 - 3 times a day, or one of the remedies sold by your pharmacist, may be of help in doing this
- Drinking large quantities of fluid during an attack may cause more discomfort when pain on passing urine is severe.
- To relieve pain take a simple painkiller such as paracetamol or ibuprofen.
- Remember to consult your GP if symptoms continue for longer than 2 - 3 days.
